Are you an experienced cook or chef looking for a different type of role? Have you had experience of running your own kitchen? Are you looking to work during school term times, only? If so, we might just have the role for you!

We are looking for a hard-working and talented cook and team leader to effectively and efficiently create and deliver high quality meals provision at St Matthew’s CE School. We are seeking to find a candidate who has experience of running a kitchen and who is able to manage catering budgets. You will report to the Headteacher and will take responsibility for a small kitchen team.

The main responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Planning and providing a range of meals for children having regard to nutritional content, variety and quality of service
  • Managing and overseeing the provision of catering services within an agreed budget
  • Being responsible for various administration procedures, supervision and training of catering staff
  • Ensuring the maintenance of the kitchen and dining areas, having due regard to efficiency and Health and Safety regulations
  • Ordering stock as required
  • Ensuring a prompt and professional response to any reasonable school request
  • Operating within the school's Equal Opportunities framework at all times
  • Standard working hours are 8.00 am - 1.30 pm, however, you may occasionally be required, with notice, to work additional hours as needed. Some flexibility may be possible.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be highly motivated and committed to providing high quality nutritious meals for children
  • Have a good background knowledge in catering
  • Have a working knowledge of the National Nutritional Standards including allergen regulations
  • Preferably have at least Level 1 Nutrition and Health Awareness (including knowledge of food safety and kitchen health and safety)
  • Have experience of working as a team and lone working
  • Have the capacity to motivate and lead a small team
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have a well-organised approach and good record keeping skills
  • Be willing to undertake on-going training
  • Be flexible

This is a term-time position and, with notice, will require some working/training in school closure periods. The post is temporary until Easter 2019 with a possibility of becoming permanent (pending a review of the provision of school meals). St Matthew’s CE School is committed to safeguarding and the well-being of all pupils and staff, therefore, the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
