Our School - 'Together we can Shine'
St Matthew’s CE Primary School is a small school comprising of 50 pupils. In the mornings pupils are taught in four main teaching groups: Early Years Foundation Stage; Year 1 and Year 2 (KS1); Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 (LKS2); and Year 6 (UKS2). In the afternoons pupils are taught in two main teaching groups (EYFS and KS1; and KS2). However, we are very flexible and allow able children in Key Stage 1 to work in the Key Stage 2 group, and children in Key Stage 2 who need extra support can work in the Key Stage 1 group.
Our pupils largely come from outlying villages and the nearby town. Parent questionnaires show that parents choose our school because of its size, ethos, academic success and caring nature, whilst being at the heart of our rural community.
In September 2012 a new nursery was set up in school. It is run by a separate management committee with their own staff. Numbers look promising for future cohorts and this year we welcomed 9 pupils into our reception class.
Our overall attendance for academic year 2016/2017 was 96.07%, which is good, and we do not have any persistent absentees.
St Matthew’s is a Church of England School and we have strong links with St Matthew’s Church, which is situated next door to our school. Our local vicar is a regular visitor to our school and he takes collective worship and singing sessions with our pupils.
