Our pupils largely come from outlying villages and the nearby towns. Parent/carer questionnaires show that parents/carers choose our school because of its size, ethos, academic success and caring nature, whilst being at the heart of our rural community.
We have an attached Pre-School. It is run by a separate management committee with their own staff. Numbers look promising for future cohorts and, in September 2024, we welcomed six pupils into our Reception class.
Our overall attendance is very good. During the academic year 2023/2024, it was 96.3%!
St Matthew’s is a Church of England school and we have strong links with St Matthew’s Church, which is situated next door to our school. Reverend Canon Bryan Rothwell is our local minister and is a regular visitor to our school; he takes collective worship with our pupils.
